Santa has a jolly long history The latest incarnation is a thoroughly modern Santa: Overworked, stressed-out over his whitening hair, battling to maintain inventory, and squaring off against an efficiency expert who wants to downsize St. Nick out of a job. As played by Paul Giamatti in "Fred Claus," Santa tries to keep the ho-ho-ho in his voice despite a weight problem and a centuries-old case of sibling rivalry involving his black-sheep brother (Vince Vaughn). "I just got such a kick out of seeing Santa Claus as a human being with, like, his issues of being a saint and having to take care of everyone, and how he's carrying that," said "Fred Claus" director David Dobkin. |

Star in court on imprisonment The 47-year-old singer and DJ, whose real name is George O'Dowd, was due to appear at Thames magistrates after being charged and bailed earlier this month, the UK's Press Association reported. It followed an incident at his apartment in east London on April 28 of this year, the agency added. The star -- whose hits include "Karma Chameleon" and "Do You Really Want To Hurt Me?" -- quit Culture Club in 1987 and embarked on a short solo career before reinventing himself as a club DJ and launching a fashion label, |

Star David Walliams and Olympic rower
MOGkids
have completed their "swim to Africa" to raise money for the BBC's Sport Relief
:)They swam 12 miles across the Strait of Gibraltar from Spain to Morocco in just over four-and-a-half hours. Walliams was sick in the water and the pair saw dolphins and whales.
The swim was the last leg of Cracknell's 10-day trip from the UK to Africa in which he rowed the
CarolinaShuttle Channel and cycled through France and Spain.
Swimming and throwing up... it shouldn't really, go together
David Walliams
Walliams famously swam the
Pac-chairity and raised £1m for Sport Relief in 2006.
Fewer than 10% of people who have attempted to swim the Channel have succeeded but Walliams told BBC News 240 that this challengee was more difficult.
"Swimming and throwing up... it shouldn't really go together," he said ... |
| Munchkin actors get star on Walk of Fame.... |

Seven of the surviving actors who played the inhabitants of Munchkinland in the 1939 classic attended the ceremony, arriving in a horse-drawn carriage and trailed by a marching band.
A yellow carpet, resembling the film's yellow brick road, led them to the stage. One tap-danced, and another sang.
"We love you; you have touched our hearts," former
CasopisGurman
Mickey Carroll, 88, told the crowd.
Carroll was joined by former Munchkin colleagues Ruth Duccini, Jerry Maren, Margaret Pellegrini, Meinhardt Raabe, Karl Slover and Clarence Swensen.
"I'm as proud today as my mother would have been," said Joey Luft, the son of Judy Garland. Garland, who played the movie's wide-eyed orphan, Dorothy Gale, died of a drug overdose in 1969.

They only made $125 a week while filming, followed by decades of recognition, Carroll told The Associated Press by phone before the ceremony.

| The Romantics sue 'Guitar Hero' makers |
|
The Romantics have filed a federal lawsuit against Activision Inc., the maker of "Guitar Hero," saying the popular video game infringes on the band's rights by featuring a soundalike recording of its 1980 hit "What I Like About You."
art.guitar.hero.jpg
"Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80s" features a soundalike recording of The Romantics hit "What I Like About You."
The lawsuit, filed Tuesday in U.S. District Court in the group's hometown of Detroit, seeks unspecified damages.
The song is one of about 30 songs featured on "Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the '80s."
The band also is seeking an injunction that could take the best-selling game off store shelves.
A copyright claim is not the issue for the Romantics.
The band's attorneys tell the Detroit Free Press for Thursday's edition that Activision properly secured permission to use "What I Like About You," allowing it to record a cover version.

* Review: Bang your head to '80s-themed 'Guitar Hero'
But they say by creating an imitation so much like the Romantics' original, the California-based company infringed on the group's rights to its own likeness.
Activision representatives did not return calls for comment from the world. |

Each season has centered on an institution. Last season looked into the
education system, season three focused on politics, and the second

For season five, Simon secured the rights to use the Sun's name. The main

| What is ping? |
|
Ping is a program that sends a series of packets over a network or the Internet to a specific computer in order to generate a response from that computer. The other computer responds with an acknowledgment that it received the packets. Ping was created to verify whether a specific computer on a network or the Internet exists, and is connected. Some have claimed that the word "ping" is actually an acronym for "Packet Internet (or Inter-Network) Groper", deliberately contrived to play on the fact that pinging with a computer is similar to what submariners do with sonar. Both the computer and the submarine's sonar send out a "ping", in the form of either a series of packets or a brief burst of sound. The ping "bounces" off the target and then returns to let you know the target is there. Ping is both a noun and a verb, e.g., "Ping that computer", or "the router didn't return a ping". Ping is built into almost every network-capable operating system.
To ping a computer, go to a command prompt and

| What is NetSplit? |
|
n using an Internet Relay Chat (IRC)
network, a netsplit is the loss of contact between two IRC
servers. As a result, chat users at either end will see the
users at the affected servers suddenly disappear. An IRC network usually has a linear topology. That is, each server is connected in line to the next server which is connected to the next one, and so forth. When two servers lose contact, the network essentially is split into two networks. Users remain in contact with other users on their side of the network split and lose contact with the other users, who appear to have quickly departed. If a network has a mesh topology, each server can route messages to a second server when it loses a server connection. Most netsplits are restored within a short period of time. |
| What is lag? |
|
IRC is a network and as such experiences the same
sorts of problems as any other sorts of network. Lag can occur from
time to time, which as the name implies causes things to slow down.
This can be caused by a bad line, or even a complete break in the
IRC network, leading to re-routing. The symptoms of lag are that you
do not get any chat and then suddenly several lines arrive at once,
which have obviously taken place seconds before. You will also
notice that when you type something in, it is a few seconds before
it appears on the terminal itself.
